FIVENSON INC.

Founded in 1937, sixty one years ago by F.E. Fivenson, Father of current president Mickey Fivenson, Fivenson Inc. began as a candy and tobacco wholesaler and evolved into a leading restaurant equipment distributor. Having sold the equipment facet of the business in 1996, Mickey created the "one-stop shop" member benefit concept for chambers and for organizations.

Mickey Fivenson, an innovator during his business career, was among the first food equipment distributors to advertise on television. With T.V. character, Sven the Swedish Chef, Mickey became a well known media figure in Northern Michigan because of his creative, funny, commercials. The phrase, "Thank you, Meekee" became his television trademark. Mickey conducted industry television workshops and was featured on a Television Bureau of Advertising national training tape. His creative approach was featured in national publications.

Mickey pioneered telemarketing in his industry. He was featured in national magazines and conducted telemarketing workshops. He also created the Northern Michigan Foodservice Expo, a regional and later a traveling (itself a unique concept) restaurant equipment trade show.

Mickey served on the board of directors of FEDA, the Foodservice Equipment Distributors Association, the national association for restaurant equipment dealers. He was a founder and served on the boards of Pride and Nissco national buying groups. He was responsible for bringing many of the first dealer-members and many of the original vendors into the groups. Mickey assisted in creating group benefits to give extra profit to members.

An avid scuba diver, runner (with his sons, Zack and Adam, they hold a world marathon record), blues harmonica musician, snowshoe racer, Fivenson has been active in Boy Scouts, having received the highest volunteer award, the Silver Beaver. He was named the Lions Club Citizen of the year, and has received the Golden Elephant volunteer award from the Republican party. With an MBA from the University of Michigan, he started the local University of Michigan Club, was its first president, and alumnus of the year. He is past-chair of the school District Advisory Board, is a 30 year member of the Traverse City Area Chamber of Commerce, is active in his religious group. He has served on numerous local, state and national boards.
